Our Mission

Petrolmate was built to solve a simple problem: fuel prices vary significantly between stations, but finding the cheapest option nearby shouldn't require checking multiple apps and websites. On any given day, the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive station in a capital city can exceed 50 cents per litre, representing over $25 on a single tank of fuel.

We aggregate data from official government sources across all Australian states and territories, plus community-verified prices, to give you the most comprehensive view of fuel prices in your area. Our goal is to help every Australian motorist save money on their weekly fill-up by making pricing information transparent and accessible.

How We Source Data

Petrolmate connects to official government fuel pricing APIs in every Australian state and territory. In New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Tasmania, retailers are legally required to report price changes to government authorities, and we access this data through their public APIs. For Victoria, we use a combination of official data and community-verified pricing to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Every price goes through validation checks including freshness verification (stale prices are deprioritised), anomaly detection (catching obviously incorrect entries), and cross-source reconciliation (comparing community reports against official data). Prices are refreshed multiple times throughout the day, with most data less than 12 hours old.
